Semana Santa

Holy Week
or Semana Santa is celebrated in Luque by having the local women bear around the streets a life-sized throne. Likewise, in the neighboring town of Baena , the Semana Santa is commemorated with the highest decibels of noise by beating over 2,000 drums simultaneously.

Fiesta of San Isidro

Annually held on the month of May, the whole town of Luque pays homage to their patron saint, San Isidro.

Eve of Christmas

The local inhabitants of Luque celebrate Christmas Eve (or Noche buena ) by going to the town s avenues with ceramic drums called zambombas . One person in every group sings a chant which the other people chorus, and this whole patter is repeated through out. The drummers merge the instruments to generate their own unique reverberations. The enhanced ceramic drums are joined by players of guitars, accordions, castanets, tambourines and cane flutes, hence creating a beautiful resonance in the Luque atmosphere.
