Car Hire (Driving)

There are car hire agencies in Cordoba with superb deals and services. If you book on-line, you might get supplementary discounts. Driving around the city in your own privately rented car may be a good alternative to let you enjoy the urban and rural sights. However, parking is a big problem in Cordoba City s center. Nonetheless there are more than a few small private car parks. One good car park is near the "Bridge Gate." Now, if driving in from Seville or Malaga consider parking in the Avenida Fray Albino on south bank of the river between the Roman Bridge and the San Rafael bridge. This route provides a pleasant entrance walking across the roman bridge and a grand overall view of the city.

Driving a car in Andalucia or Spain is very similar to driving in other European countries. The roads are reasonably well maintained. The following points should serve as a guide.

The law demands that:
    - Driving license, car document and insurance must be carried at all times.

- Seat belts are worn front and back at all times.

- Less than 25mg/100ml of alcohol must be in the blood -equal to just one small glass of wine or beer! This standard is much less than many other countries.

- Two warning triangles must be carried at all times.

- Do not use a mobile phone whilst driving unless with completely hands off system.

- Children under 12 are not permitted in front seats or on a motorcycle.

- Radar detectors are illegal as is warning drivers ahead of a checkpoint.

Speed limits:
    - 120 km/h on motorways.

- 100 km/h on dual carriageways.

- 90 km/h on single carriageway roads.

- 50 km/h in towns.

Rules of the road:
    - Give way to the right.

- Priority is to those already on a roundabout.
